I’d been hoping we’d be able to wrap the night with Kamala Harris on track to win, or without a clear sense of who’d win. Instead, she appears to be in very bad shape. While as I write this it’s still technically possible she’ll pull it out in swing states, those odds narrow by the minute, and they fall against the backdrop of a swing to the right just about everywhere else.
Perhaps we’ll wake up in a world where this episode is not relevant, but I wanted to send it tonight, as a time capsule from midnight on election day. We discuss what we watched unfold tonight, what went wrong, what we expect in a second Donald Trump presidency, and if and how the worst can be resisted if Trump really does win.
Stay close. I hope we can all remain committed for the long haul to saving democracy through a more muscular liberalism .
