Boy, did I love reading this. It gives me a lot of hope to see young people expressing their love for their communities and their heritage, and each other, with art being the catalyst. Stop teaching art? Stop teaching music? NEVER. Also, it gives me joy to see these twisted, vile haters losing their “culture war.” I’ve said this a million times, but there are more of us than there are of them. Sooner or later, The People will win.
Bad Bunny generated a viewship of between 124 and 135 million. He is a participant in a cultural revolution which is now happening and which people will become aware of as they have been introduced to him and his music. I did some searching around yesterday, listening to interviews and listening to his music. The symbolism and iconography he used in the show, wasn't invented in a short period of time, this is part of what his music and art portray. I believe even more than a pop star, he's an artist. So yes Brian, Hallelujah Excellent essay.
The 2028 Democratic nominee should do a huge campaign stop and rally in Puerto Rico.
In 2024, Trump did a couple stops in NYC. At the time, the savvy pundits questioned it. Why go to a safe blue state instead of investing that valuable time in a swing state? But it garnered more attention than your traditional swing state stop. (Not just because of the Madison Square Garden fiasco). It showed confidence and broke through.
A Dem rally in Puerto Rico would be an attention bombshell.
I'd never heard of Bad Bunny before his elevation to the Super Bowl halftime show. My wife ended up in the hospital on Sunday, but we watched the show on my iPhone. What a great show! I'm now a fan. Fun, uplifting, inclusive.
Your 2025 predictions stated this about the administration
“…. because their added increments of preparedness will be swamped by
their much greater arrogance, leading them to shed guardrails, fall into obvious traps, and overreach.”
Today’s post is confirmation.

Anyone have any idea what the split between statehood and indepenence is in Puerto Rico?
Statehood would make Puerto Rico something like 33rd in population, similar to Iowa or Arkansas. Likely 2 Dem senators and maybe 4 Congressional reps.
A pledge to work for statehood could rally Puerto Rican votes in many US states (people on the island do not vote for president like DC does.)
Maybe the Super Bowl halftime show has helped make the case for statehood easier to sell?

Love trumps hate.
That full retreat by Jake Paul (who!?!?) is SOMETHING. Wow.
Boy oh boy, are we going to see more of this as the rats continue to flee the sinking ship. Trumper? I don't even know her!
Brad Karp at Paul Weiss (not Paul Karp).
And what’s the argument that Bezos would be richer under a Harris administration? Genuinely curious.
I love the smell of schadenfreude in the morning!
