Good points! The journalist crowd’s timidity is astounding!
Another place it shows: there are journalists who, upon occasion, will lob, respectfully, an unfriendly question at Trump, only to be met by stupid and juvenile name-calling. “Piggy” for example. Why do they never fight back, demand apology, and force Trump’s goons to throw them out of the room? The optics would be better than for meek submission.
Journalist: “Mr. President, why did you do (despicable thing X)?”
Trump: “You’re disgusting and so is whatever media you’re with, you’re fake news and you’re ugly”
Journalist: “Sir, I will not be insulted by you. I demand an apology and, on behalf of the American people, a real answer to my question. Why won’t you give it?”
Trump: “Guards, throw this ugly, disgusting thing out of here!”
Such an incident would provoke infinitely greater buzz and publicity than meekly accepting his non-answer.
Because they aspire to be Olivia Nuzzi and screw there way up the ladder for access & success. Or sit on a scoop so they can release it 2 years from now for their book like Carl Bernstein & Michael Wolff.
Thank you Todd, "Everyone one else should start here: The most urgent news isn’t the selective history recorded in the redacted Epstein files. It’s what the president is doing with his immense power, here, now, in public, apparently so that a child sex trafficker won’t tell what she knows."
The so called main stream media has failed miserably in their coverage of trump from the day he came down that dumb ass escalator and it has only gotten worse over the last decade.
Their failure has now expanded to coverage of pretty much anything republican related and considering MAGA billionaires have taken over a majority of the mediums where people get their ‘news’ it going to continue to go down hill.
While there are some journalists here and there that still try to report the truth they’re outnumbered, it’s all so disgusting.
At this point the corruption is a target rich environment. I (and many others) have been saying it for months but the fact that democratic leadership hasn't been pounding him and the republican party with a daily expose of everything they are destroying, or everyone they are pardoning, is beyond frustrating. What the hell are they waiting for? Collegiality is a dead end. Given the chance the republicans will knife democratic lawmakers in the back with a smile. That they don't get this makes me want to scream, and then check my own sanity. And it's clear that the press doesn't want to make daddy mad. Access is everything (and those sweet book deals).
I really don’t know how you refrain from slapping these journalists. “That’s just Trump looking for the best deal”??? As if the fact that he’s looking for any kind of deal with a convicted pedophile sex trafficker, who only has her silence to offer Trump and not one other Goddam thing, isn’t THE story all by itself. What a bunch of mediocre, sleeping babies we have for the famed fourth estate.
Seems to me that, in 2024, people screamed to the heavens about the dangers of another Trump presidency. Voters didn't really pay attention.
Sadly, I think we need to adjust to a new reality; namely, that given a sufficient amount of economic anxiety, Americans will toleratea good deal of evil from their elected officials.

Why has no one tried this?
