Isn't it a bit of a waste of time and effort? I don't think median voter will care much about things Trump did 40 years ago. He was a good looking NY real estate multimillionaire douchebag in his 40s. Sexually assaulting women, even underage (but generally from lower class) was somewhat a norm at the time for people in his station. To make this news one would need help from media, democrats and social media wizards.
“Norm?” Actually it has been criminal conduct in all 50 states for decades. There is no “times were different” both-sidesing sexual assault of minors. Unless, of course, the lives of those minors are meaningless and they are disposable. Which is the premise of your point (especially if they are poor, you say). The Epstein class lives and thrives on this appalling premise.
It is and was gross, criminal, awful and should be prosecuted then, now and in the future. But you have to take into account that this kind of crimes were "tolerated" when it came to powerful men in 80s and before. A multimillionaire like Trump at the time, would do coke, cheat on taxes, swindle contractors, and possibly occasionally raped women, also sometimes underage ones. But as long as it was not in the open, and the victims were not "white, modest looking, 'virtuous'" then nobody would rock the boat. Epstein wouldn't kidnap children out of the streets. He knew where too search for victims who wouldn't be looked for by the system.
Now, Trump started war that killed thousands, tried to end democracy, pardoned people for money and did many other awful crimes. But median voter will not care as long as eggs are cheap and social media feed is funny enough. Do you honestly believe finding out that he raped a teenager in 1984 would change things? It could, but only if a this kind of scandal was managed medially. Media events, crises, scandals are "manufactured", not just found.
I'm going to assume you're sincere. If you have been paying attention you know that a LARGE part of the MAGA base has been obsessed with the Epstein files for a decade. He promised them (along with Patel, Bongino, etc.) that this was a priority for him. Then he tried everything he could (including getting Johnson to not seat a duly elected representative and pulling Boebert into a SCIF to try and persuade her to not vote for the discharge petition) to make sure these files were never seen. Saying "We need to move on" is EXACTLY what he wants people to say. The media is NOT letting this story go away. (pardon the all caps) Brian is right to try and find out what exactly Trump does not want people to see. This is NOT about the median voter. This is about the base and the people who want to see justice for the survivors.
The base will vote for him regardless. The die hard MAGA celebrities like Alex Jones might be angry due to Epstein coverup, but base will accept it. To get rid of Trump you have to persuade the median voter of median state - a low propensity guy, whose feed will not be populated with Trump crimes anymore than it is now. A guy whose view of establishment is so low that any evil Trump does is already priced in. Trump started war? - every president does that. Trump raped a girl? - every billionaire does it. Attacking Trump through his personal evil acts is a dead end.
Well, we have a completely different view of what's important to the base, and saying that it's Alex Jones is a total straw man. How about Joe Rogan and Andrew Schultz and others in the manosphere? They influence millions of young men. When Joe Rogan tells James Talarico he should run for president, maybe you should listen. The truth is you can keep answering me back with your opinions (not backed up with data) or we can just say that time will tell. I will simply add that if it is priced in, why is Trump so terrified of people learning what's in the files the DOJ is illegally holding back? He more than anybody thinks he can get away with anything, but there's something there that's a lot more than we know.
Except eggs aren't cheap and aren't getting cheaper. You constantly urge passivity in the interest of "realism." I think your dismissal of the "median voter's" interest in moral issues is just wrong. When the biggest MAGA maniacs in Congress (MT Greene, Nancy Mace, Lauren Boebert) all vote against the GOP to release the Epstein Files and express horror and indignation about them, your comments dismissing their importance seem off the mark. Republican men (of a certain kind) may wave off such depredations as old news, but a lot of women aren't so cavalier.
“Underage women” is another word for girls ~ children. I think the median voter should care about someone raping children, no matter when it occurred, no matter who he was. Especially those who think he was sent by God to save the US. And yes, the media and Democrats, need to not let this story die.
I agree but I’d like to take it one step further and say who gives a shit what the ‘median voter’ might think, though my guess is a majority would care a lot. This is beyond ‘politicking’.
Dems, and really anyone with even the tiniest remnants of a moral compass, should do whatever they can to find out whether or not the current President of the United States raped a girl/child.
Say what you want about Donald Trump he has one thing going for him: political instincts. He knows when a story is damaging (or advantageous) to him politically. The fact that he has gone to such great lengths to bury this completely obliterates your point.
This ignorant thinking is what keeps people like trump in power! It's what MAGA lives and thrives on. It may have been normal and acceptable for Cro-magnon times, but NOT 40 yrs ago, period!

Yep. Demoralizing and dividing your opponent's base is hugely important.
The base will vote for him regardless. The die hard MAGA celebrities like Alex Jones might be angry due to Epstein coverup, but base will accept it. Double sigh….

Come on bro.

Seriously, dude?
@Bartlomiej - would you be so glib if the female involved was your daughter?
Sigh….

This is really gross!
If the missing files pertained to accusations of Bill Clinton for the same acts, we might not be at war with Iran right now. </wtf>
File under "ADVANCE, don't obey in."
File under "shred immediately" more likely...
Well done Brian and thank you for fighting the good fight.
Brian, would it help if other citizens, myself, made duplicate FOIA requests? If so please let us know.
Doing God's work.
Well Done, Brian!
