Really fantastic piece. We on the left talk a lot about the collective memory hole of the Trump presidency, usually assigning the memory hole to “average voters.” But this post made me realize I’ve forgotten a lot of things about the Trump presidency. The scandals and corruption are easy to call to mind, but I truly had not in the past four years reflected on how deeply disgusting Trump’s disaster responses were. And there were so many! Reading this, I suddenly recalled his paper towel toss, his heartless half-reactions to wildfires, floods, and hurricanes. Those were moments of real pain and anxiety for me, the sense that nobody at the top even pretended to care about fellow human beings impacted by “acts of god” that could befall any of us at any moment. Not only that, our lives were just more fodder in the culture war.

Biden should make this article a speech word for word.

The gushing Trump sewer pipe of venom and vitriol splashing the news every day tends to drown the memory of the vileness that Trump displayed as POTUS. His response to natural disasters and COVID by taunting his opposition using federal emergency assistance as a method of political extortion is an evil I can barely imagine for the leader of the country. Keep reminding voters, Brian.

Well, well, well......

So, Christopher Rufo, who knowingly conjured up mass white panic over what he admits was a non-existent Critical Race Theory take over of American school curricula at all levels, is now worried about bigotry and how things are "getting insane" within MAGA-land! I guess he's upset because all the MAGA foot soldiers don't bother dressing up their prejudice in think tank rhetoric to soften their real feelings. Maybe the New York Times will give him space to wring his hands in public.

David Byrne once exclaimed in one of his Talking Head songs. "And you may ask yourself; 'How did I get here?'" Unfortunately, the correct answer for Rufo and his like is "My God, What have I done!"

Chris Hayes on his show last night discussed this under "Are you better off?"

I so wish that our citizens' memories were better! "Politics" should mean service, governing, making policies to better the lives of all citizens.

Brian, you're correct when you point out that even weak comments concerning DEI opens the floodgates for the racists.😥😳

Oh, as a Baltimorean of 32 years, thanks for reminding everyone TFG (that F is for an obscene gerund) threw rolls of paper towels at the citizens of Puerto Rico. But electrical power restoration — not so much.

I haven't run the app on my phone, so I'm reporting on what I see on a desktop via the web. I had no idea that the look and feel would vary like that. I also confirmed that the edit feature is visible through the web on my phone. You need to be logged in. Good luck!
