I try to like the Democrats, but the third question is just pathetic. "Do you think the bully is going to take my lunch money again tomorrow?" jfc!

What do you recommend we do to bring pressure? I am in Georgia. Do I call Ossoff and Warnock or do I call Schumer and Jeffries directly? Or all of the above? I am 67 years old and I am beyond livid…FED UP. I want to slap these idiots or yell, Cher style, “Shnap out of it!” What a bunch of ninnies.

This is the key question. Someone needs to lead a rebellion against the Dynamic Duo. How do we (a) identify that leader, (b) publicize who it is and what the strategy is, and (c) put pressure on the Dynamic Duo as the nominal leaders to follow and not to cave at the last minute the way Schumer did in March?

Never going to happen. Look what the DNC did to Bernie - one of the most popular politicians around - not once but twice. See also the Democratic establishment’s response to Mandami in NYC, and Schumer’s plot to run Graham Platner out of his bid for the Maine Senate seat with his preferred 77 year old candidate. The only power we have is at the ballot box to vote for third party candidates who we truly support, no matter how painful that is, until they get the message.

Generally better to call your own representatives. Congressional offices are mostly not interested in hearing from people that aren't their own constituents.

If 24 Dem Senators, especially including frontline members, decide that what Schumer is doing is pissing off their voters, they could replace him. I doubt it'll happen, but can't hurt to send the message.

Quit voting for them until they get the message the we won’t tolerate their absolute cowardice any more.

Call your senators and say you want them to remove Schumer, because he’s a proven failure. Be ready to support primary challengers if they don’t.

If they vote to pass the bill, in essence they’re condoning the regime’s lawlessness and corruption as well as the complete degradation of public health, the environment, the economy, the social fabric, morality, ethics, decency, and equality. If that’s the outcome, then they can kiss the majority of informed voters goodbye. It will be an unrecoverable/unforgivable decision for the party.

One would think that some Senate Democrat with presidential ambitions would take this opportunity to mount a challenge to Schumer. It doesn't even have to be a successful challenge, just... something.

Brad Lander realized he wasn't going to win the NYC mayoral primary, so he turned his campaign into a kamikaze mission to destroy Cuomo's chances. He lost, but boosted his profile and is now more popular than ever. He set himself up for something bigger in the future.

You have to be willing to steer your ship into your opponent's.

Agreed. There is an opening for someone with common sense and a modicum of charisma to tell it like it is. The despair I feel listening to the mealy-mouthed Dem leadership…I know others share that and are hungry for truth and courage, the kind Gov. Pritzker demonstrated.

I copied this from your email and sent it to my senators and House rep:

This should be the one voice of Democrats in the House and Senate:

"As you know President Trump is engaged in a wide variety of illegal activity, including his seizure of Congress’s spending and tariff authority, his abuse of other emergency authorities, and his deployment of masked, secret police throughout the country. We of course can not vote to fund the continuation of this lawlessness. Should you need Democratic votes to renew funding for the government, we will insist upon amending the appropriations to include measures defunding these historic abuses of power.” [quote from Brian Beutler]

This is why the Democrats are polling as bad as Trump is. As weak as Trump is we should be cakewalking to victory in the midterms but winning is far from certain. My own questioning of young people and independents on why they didn’t vote for Harris and why they aren’t protesting with us is that they see the Democrats as a corporate party. There is still a lot of anger over Gaza. I argue that sometimes your choice is bad or worse and bad is better. That doesn’t seem to win anyone over. I’m 66 and have never voted for a republican and never will but I’m tired of holding my nose to vote.

Another clear example of the lack of leadership in the Democratic party! Jeffries is a total disappointment. Schumer never disappoints by always living up to very low expectations. Take a lesson from the Governors, boys! Thanks for letting us down and selling us up the river again. Worthless.

I'm expecting an Executive Order removing the word "rescission" from the English language, since it has become utterly meaningless.

What we need to do is savagely and ruthlessly throw both of them under the bus and blame as much of the Democratic brand as possible on these two. These are serious times and we have to get real right now. They don't have a plan and they're completely naive to the historical moment we live in. It's obvious and it's not time to cage egos. Serious Democratic elected officials who are really ready to stand up for the country should stop at nothing to force change no matter the cost. They should be trying to betray people personally and stab each other in the back until there is a real strategy for dealing with the active attack on American Society.

Someone has to break the glass.

Doesn't mean we can't have fun doing it. Schumer, you expect to be in this party in 2028? Oh no...They expect one of us in the wreckage, brother.

This is called politics. It's what you have to do if you want to obtain power. We need power to protect life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Sorry! If you're not up for it, get the fuck out of the way.

Could we call a meeting with Schumer on zoom? I looked at his website and it's possible to request a meeting. What if a bunch of us who read this column met with him virtually to read him the riot act? Is that a crazy idea?

DC Democrats are deeply broken people, undergirded by pervasive institutional rot. These people are not going to save us. There's no Gingrich style bomb thrower to effect immediate change from within. It will take a generation or a generational POTUS to sweep aside. Yes, it's that bleak.
