Super. Now if only Dems would learn that press releases contain too many words and they need to make their positions clear in the length of a tweet or in the same number of words trump (or whomever is writing his posts) uses on truth social, they may actually succeed in getting their message to break through. Tik Toks and reels would also work.

Thank you Brian, I have been calling my Representative, while not as articulate as you are, yesterday the staffer finally said she was sharing my message and asked for the correct spelling of my name and location. I am going to use your script today:

"My emphases would be very different. I’d drop all extraneous demands. I’d include many more measures to constrain Trump’s lawbreaking. And I’d make my stand entirely about the folly of cutting a deal with Trump. No votes for a deal he can break, no votes for lawbreaking. Things have gotten so bad that I could make a principled case for Democrats to simply walk away. Provide no votes to fund the government or anything else. If it shuts down, do not open it. Quiet quitting, but for the legislative opposition."

Hi Brian, great essay! You nailed it. I hope they stick to the plan/or follow yours - do not fund a rogue government. The Red Lipstick Forum is with you! Have a great day! Judy and Donna

I don’t see how we’re being helped by this constant demonization of the Democratic Party. Urge them to do better, of course. But by constantly grouping them all as a bunch, and emphasizing their worthlessness (of which I don’t agree), why would anyone vote for them? And votes are where it’s at, because without them you get the trump regime, forever. There’s not enough time between now and the midterms to focus on anything but winning. I’ll vote for a turnip if that would defeat the trump regime, and that should be our number one objective. Then after winning, work on reforming the party, if that’s what you think must be done.

Don’t let the mistakes that led to Hillary losing in 2016, because you didn’t get the candidate you wanted, be repeated.

Phrase the need for reform ina different light, not throwing out the baby with the bath water. Be strategic.

Yes but. I’d go a step further: highlight as much as possible those democrats who are fighting back and doing so loudly, people like Pritzker. There aren’t many of them but chastising the many who so far have failed to up their game doesn’t seem like a winning strategy. We should do everything we can to encourage the few who are leading the cause. We don’t need, and shouldn’t want, too many such people. Too many and they begin to squabble with each other, opposition breaks down into factions. Let the others follow in support. Make clear what the principles are and make them lofty. Trump is wholly unprincipled and any opposition needs to face him on that battleground, not one of his choosing.

I’ll be voting democrat. But we should still want them to change for the better because if they just keep doing what they’ve been doing then that isn’t going to cut it. I we are able to win back this country then I want to make it better. Not shift right back into bipartisanship with a bunch of nut job republicans.

I have no special love for these democrats over others and we should expect the best conduct from them, but to talk about them as if they’re all worthless could cause people to not come out to vote, because, why bother if they’re all the same. Just reframe the criticism so that people still see the benefit of voting, and emphasize the good some democrats are doing, as some are.

Votes get rid of the trump regime. How to get, those votes is crucial.

Dems must not make this about health care. That’s important but trump’s demolition of democracy is bigger. He won’t keep any deal that’s made - so don’t deal. Shut it down . Make them own the wreckage.

I’m a broken record on this but I still think a smart play would be to insist on slashing ICE funding.

Not sure where to put this, so putting it here. So FBI had Tom Homan dead to rights on bribery last September and once again a Democratic administration was above letting the people know about it in time to matter for the election. While we're talking about fighting, can we please stop playing by Marquis of Queensbury rules?

What would happen if the Dems just left D.C.?

Make it absolutely clear that what the nation gets is only what Republicans are willing to give them.

YES on all component thinking and strategies!! Amen! About Brendan Carr…it doesn’t make any sense for the head of any federal agency or organization to make arbitrary decisions about anything in that entity’s purview. Law comes through a different process. Policies and then strategies should come through a subgroup responsible for leadership decisions and actions that are well researched and considered, based on court cases and decisions, knowledge of all constituents, and dedicated regard and empathy for fairplay! A singular decision to ignore a main tenet of the U.S. Constitution should not happen at all, much less at the voice of one person!
