On one of the subtopics today: I think it’s a mistake to think of ‘affordability’ and any other issue as this-or-that. How about Jon Ossoff’s approach (which I think has the added advantage of being correct): “ you can’t afford gas, groceries, healthcare BECAUSE OF the graft, BECAUSE OF the oligarchs etc etc”.
There are some elected and hoping to be elected Dems that have been quite good at connecting what the White House and its enablers are doing to the ‘affordability crisis’ but not nearly enough of them.
It’s an easy connection to make, one that will resonate and a message that many people understand. I don’t know why it’s not a party wide talking point.
It’s not being utilized party-wide because Democratic leadership only cares about its donors and Israel, let’s get real here 😂
I 100% agree with Brian on his strategy but in order for it to happen, we’d need new leaders and new other Dem electeds that want this too.
I heard someone say something yesterday that made sense. When Biden had the road blocks of Manchin & Sinema, we all hated them two but those two were also covering for many others that weren’t willing to take arrows that agreed with them. Until, we know who those other elected Dems are, we’ll still be where we are because it sure feels like the Dem Party really wants to lose. What else explains it?!
Ossof is a rising Democratic star. Get him re-elected and stand back. He will distinguish himself in the Senate en route to becoming a President who will prove to be as impactful and historic as Barack Obama.
Ken Martin should definitely do this. Here's another idea:
The next Democratic presidential candidate should agree to a big 60 Minutes interview on the condition that it's with Bari Weiss herself.
My hypothesis is that Bari is simply not a very smart person, but is also way too confident in her abilities as a journalist. She would not be able to resist this temptation. I think someone like JB Pritzker or Pet Buttigieg could absolutely steamroll her. While doing it, they should interject with "leave this part in" and "don't cut this part, it's important." I can only dream.
The GOP response to Virginia's redistricting tells the story: they rely on our goodness and decency. Our lack of will is built into everything they do and they will continue to take until we grab their greedy hand.
Yes, yes, and more yes. Unfortunately as Brian knows, Martin will never have the spine or the instincts that would be needed to do this. I have been banging the gong about what a mistake it was choosing him over Wikler. Now let's see the DNC read the room and rectify that mistake. My fear is (as I have said in previous comments) Martin's strategy is to hang on by his fingernails until the election and then (if despite him) the Dems prevail he'll take a victory lap on MSNOW and declare himself a genius.
If CBS moved to dismiss such a lawsuit with "this case is obvious nonsense" that would raise questions about whether their prior settlement was in good faith. Not a great position for them.
And, if Ken Martin were competent, he would have no problem making a clear connection between “heads we win, tails you lose” Republican bad faith and affordability.
First off, the democratic establishment needs to be scrubbed from top to bottom of those who don’t want to play ball and step into the here and now. It’s a whole different game and they’re not even interested in learning how to play it! As far as Martin goes, I was never a fan. Then they made David Hogg a VP and I thought okay some balance, but then they treated him like he was just some punk kid who doesn’t have a clue and put all their eggs in Martins basket…how’s that workin out! Big mistake Hogg knows what he’s doing! He’s smart, empathetic, has vision, integrity for miles and a very bright future! This party needs to start getting behind the right people! And maybe the democratic leadership, all aspects of it should have a subscription to Off Message and other likeminded publications so they can pop the bubble they live in and see that there are great ideas past the nose on their own faces and it shouldn’t just be their way or the highway!
I’d love to see this happen. It’s long, long past time Dems started fighting back against what the GOP is now instead of hoping that if they pull their punches Republicans will hopefully, maybe, one day respect those norms of the past.
The DNC itself has nothing to lose by going low, fighting fire with fire might actually inspire some voters to reengage with party.
I think you're right about affordability. Democrats can pull back on that issue for a bit since it's obvious to anyone who goes to the grocery store drives a car but prices are too high.
This was EXACTLY my thought when I saw the interview was edited. Taking their big fat bribe as precedent.
And don’t the viewers also have a cause of action for fraud?

Oh yeah, and yes! Sue ‘em!

Yes, Dems should sue CBS and also boycott CBS. After Survivor’s over, there won’t be any reason to watch. Boycott Paramount as well.
This is blackout Monday. May Day. May Day. Don’t shop. Stay off the big apps.
He’s incompetent! Got to go!

I read this sentence…”it’s not right versus left, it’s people versus power!”
We need a new party, sorry
What is wrong with this?
My thoughts precisely. FIRE WITH FIRE, PEOPLE, in this and every other way!!!

Lawsuit is a great idea!! Please pitch it to DNC.

At least, if Martin sued, they could play the deleted parts until even Cletus knew Trump has become deranged.
